In China, where I've lived for about 11 months now, the kind of things Disney is described as doing is the norm. Not just in factories (where it's REALLY bad), but in schools, colleges, probably even the governemnt. No one here wants to cause a fuss, any mistake or foot out of line means losing your job, it's a harsh place. For example, at a college where I worked this summer, they made a propoganda ad for the college (they actually called it propoganda, very honest of them). a girl complained about the dishonesty of saying that there were 3000 students there (it's a private college for rich morons) and not the real figure of 300. She was taken asside and threatened with expulsion for causing a fuss. This was at a college. A private college. People who don't tow the line here are beaten down mercilessly as everyone knows that there're plenty motre people to fill their posts. on another note, workers here earn between 500 and 800 RMB per month, whicvh is more than a peasant earns, and they are very happy it.
on another note, in one year in Fujian province (SE china, right across from Taiwan where textiles are the main product), a freind tells me that 40000 finger tips were lost.
workers are fired if they have an accident, this way the company doesn't have to pay out their medical insurance.
you really wouldn't wanna be chinese.
the whole contry is kind of like the one in the book 1984. the powerful are proud of their power and flaunt it, and the poor are worthless.
the problemis that they are trianed from childhood to be meek and mild. the biggest shame hereis causing a fuss about anything. taxi drivers rip people off for if they are stopping outside their homes, as aruging in public looks really really bad.
they just bend over and swallow the shit because they're trained to.
and yes, most media barons are cunts.
