CanWest Watch

Any strong point of view creates animus. The interesting thing is the strong reactions against the National Post. I feel it is the paper's stance on Israel that fuels these reactions. The issue is volatile. As for the CBC, it does not completely rely on subscriptions or sales, like the Post. No matter how many people listen to or watch it, it is going to receive government funding. A lot more people tune into CanWest for the news, and these people are supporting the CBC with their taxes, even though they don't watch it. The CBC doesn't seem pro or anti Israel to me, they seem to give various opinions. If its focus becomes too narrow, and there is enough pressure on the government from voters and interested parties, the CBC's programming can be adjusted. In the case of the Post, if enough people refuse to buy it, it will either be forced to change or go out of business.
